Ellis Odynn Executive Director and Chief AI Officer, Digital Finance Institute

Ellis Odynn champions the title of Canada’s first Chief AI Officer. Ellis is the Executive Director and Chief AI Officer of the Digital Finance Institute (DFI), a global technology think tank. In this capacity, she heads the Institute’s key initiatives — from building partnerships, supporting innovation development, growing the Canadian FinTech & AI communities, and managing international affairs.

Ellis has fully immersed herself in the tech world. She is the Producer and Co-host of the Let’s Tech Podcast, the Founder and Executive Producer of Canada FinTech Week, a financial technology festival, the Executive Producer of Canada’s annual FinTech & AI Awards, and the host of both North America’s global Artificial Intelligence forum, the AI World Forum, and Canada’s National FinTech conference, FinTech Canada.

Speaking at events and conferences on the topics of AI, Blockchain, FinTech, Financial Crime, Digital Currencies and Regulation has become an outlet for sharing her knowledge and passion.

When she isn’t uniting the AI industry, Ellis dedicates her time to running a charitable organization that brings education, security and inclusion to refugee girls in Africa and the Middle East.

Sherry Madera Global Head of Industry and Government Affairs, Refinitiv

Sherry Madera joined Refinitiv as the Global Head of Industry and Government Affairs in March 2019, based in London.

Sherry joined Refinitiv from City of London where she was Economic Ambassador to Asia and Special Advisor. Sherry worked closely with Industry and government on Financial Services topics including Sustainability/Green Finance, Fin Tech, Currency internationalisation and Regulation.

Previously, as Minister-Counsellor and Director at the British Embassy in Beijing, Sherry was responsible for promoting trade and investment between the UK and China through her team based in cities throughout mainland China, Hong Kong and London. Her particular focus is on Financial and Business Services and the Technology sectors, as key industries of cross border growth.  She played a leading role in the regular UK-China Economic and Financial Dialogues, and Prime Ministerial Summits, and the once in a decade President Xi’s visit to the UK, and helps develop policy objectives as well as inward and outward investment opportunities between the UK and Asia

Sherry participated in the recent UK-India 9th Economic and Financial Dialogue in April 2017 led by the Chancellor and is leading the City of London’s contribution to India-UK relations. Her team is focused on supporting work in the areas of FinTech, Insurance and Reinsurance, and the internationalisation of the Rupee. Sherry regularly hosts inbound visits from India’s financial CEOs, government and regulators and London based senior stakeholder meetings following her visits to India.

Prior to working for the UK Government, Sherry was an investment banker specializing in public listings, venture capital and Mergers & Acquisitions with companies such as CIBC, Telia, China Mobile, Wireless Facilities, Global Crossing and IDG Ventures.  She also was an entrepreneur who founded, built and exited several financial, technology, telecommunications, internet and travel industry startups including AwayPhone, Ionic Advisors and Luckywu.com.

Sherry has held several Executive and Non-Executive positions on Boards of companies in the UK, Ireland, USA, and Canada. She holds a BScH in Chemistry from Queen’s University in Canada and is a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).

Lisa Rowsell Managing Director, Canada, Refinitiv

Lisa Rowsell is the Managing Director for Refinitiv in Canada, responsible for developing and driving the core business strategy across Canada including the end-to-end customer experience, revenue performance and partnerships.

Since joining Thomson Financial in 2000, Lisa has held a variety of sales and leadership roles within the organization. Prior to assuming the leadership of Canada, Lisa was Senior Vice President & Global Business Director for select strategic customers across financial centres in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
